Fireworks are closely linked with the Maltese Festa. It is an
essential part of every feast and many people eagerly await these
displays. It is often said that a feast without fireworks is not a
feast at all. The feast dedicated to St Joseph at Żebbug is no
exception. The Society, St Joseph and De Rohan Band Club, boasts of a
number of enthusiasts that every year they spend most of their spare
time producing these fireworks.
From the early years
of the twentieth century the St Joseph Club already had its own site
where fireworks were produced. It was in fact situated at Wied Incita.
Along all these years these enthusiasts never failed to produce a
decent display for the feast of St Joseph. Through the years these
enthusiasts gained for themselves a high reputation for the high
quality fireworks they produce, especially the mechanical ground
fireworks display prepared for the eve of the feast of St Joseph.
One
cannot but really appreciate the work done by these enthusiasts who,
whilst endangering their health and lives and sacrificing their family
life, work hard each year in order to ensure that during the week when
the feast dedicated to St Joseph is celebrated in Żebbuġ, a high
quality fireworks programme is ready for display. The said feast is
held yearly on the last weekend of July.
